Transparency in public procurement is no longer just a buzzword; it's a necessity for fostering trust between the government and its citizens. In Nigeria, the public procurement landscape has historically been marred by inefficiencies and lack of public oversight. However, the tide is turning with the adoption of Open Data Standards.

The Power of Budeshi

At the forefront of this transformation is Budeshi, our open contracting platform. Budeshi, which means "Open It" in Hausa, is designed to link budget and procurement data to specific public services. By doing so, it provides a clear line of sight from when a project is budgeted to when it is executed.

"Data is the sunlight that disinfects the procurement process. Without it, accountability is just a dream."

Why Open Data Standards Matter

The Open Contracting Data Standard (OCDS) allows for the disclosure of data and documents at all stages of the contracting process. This uniformity makes it easier for civil society organizations, journalists, and even competing businesses to analyze procurement trends, identify red flags, and demand explanations when projects stall.

Our advocacy has led to several Nigerian states adopting OCDS, creating a ripple effect of transparency across the Federation. As we continue to refine our tools, the goal remains the same: ensuring that every Naira spent by the government translates into tangible value for the Nigerian people.
